Botox Vs. Aesthetic Acupuncture
Botox Vs. Aesthetic Acupuncture
What’s the difference?
As one can imagine, this is the #1 question I get when I tell people what I do for a living: “Dr. Anna, is Aesthetic Acupuncture like Botox?”
In short, my answer is “ABSOLUTLEY NOT!” It is like comparing two very different things.
My goal with this brief article is to explain what the differences are thus educating people who are interested to make the better choice for themselves.
What is Botox?
Botox injections are noted primarily for the ability to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. Botox injections use a toxin called onobotulinumtoxin A to temporarily prevent a muscle from moving.
Because of that, the most common use of these injections is to temporarily relax the facial muscles that cause wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes.
Unfortunately, this process results in poor blood circulation and sluggish lymphatic movement since the muscles are not moving to flush out waste.
Treatments tend to be very quick and patients are in and out of the doctor’s office within 20min.
Aesthetic Acupuncture…
on the contrary, works by increasing circulation to areas in need in order to deliver nutrients to the skin. When hair thin acupuncture needles get inserted to fine lines and wrinkles, they promotes collagen production which helps fill in those lines & reduce the signs of aging.
The healthy increase of blood flow also helps hydrate and brighten the skin to help it look and feel amazing.
Treatments involve traditional Chinese wisdom of acupuncture , gua sha and cupping along with modern aesthetics such as micro current and LED light therapy. The benefits are more than just skin deep.
Aesthetic Acupuncture also addresses internal imbalances that can affect ones skin health and appearance. For example, hormonal acne can improve by balancing hormone levels and healing the gut. Excess stress can lead to facial expressions that can create or worsen wrinkles but aesthetic acupuncture can help by reducing muscle tension in the face & combat stress naturally by releasing endorphins and calming the mind & body.
Best time to start these holistic skincare treatments is in the early 30s because prevention is key!
It is truly a great experience that your skin & body will thank you for.
Do women incorporate both?
Yes! I have treated many celebrities that combine Aesthetic Acupuncture with Botox and what we have seen is that there results are longer lasting and they typically need less frequent Botox injections.
So my friends, this is how Aesthetic Acupuncture differs from Botox injections & how it can be combined.
